5 Wedding Planning Tips for the Maid of Honor

Acting as the maid of honor for your loved one’s wedding is nothing short of a privilege. Out of everyone in the bride’s life, they chose you to accept this integral role in their big day! As the maid of honor, you are tasked with overseeing the most important and memorable days of your loved one’s life – therefore, being offered this role demonstrates a significant amount of trust that has been placed in you. And, on the other hand, accepting this special job is one of the greatest and most selfless gifts that you can give to your loved one.

Unfortunately, with the sheer magnitude of responsibilities a maid of honor has, it is completely natural to experience feelings of stress and anxiety while you plan out your duties. The following five tips will help you go above and beyond your role as the maid of honor while still maintaining your sanity and actually enjoying the experience!

Join a wedding planning website. When juggling all of the MOH tasks like, guest lists, invitations, finding the best photographer, and planning an engagement party, there are a ton of helpful websites that provide beneficial tools and checklists to help you organize and conquer the countless responsibilities you have as maid of honor. Sites like these are crucial when taking the stress out of wedding planning.

Keep an open and honest line of communication with the bride-to-be. You should go into this job understanding what your loved one is expecting from you – so ask them. Then, as you plan different events, engagement sessions, or help take on wedding tasks, keep them updated and in the loop. Make sure you maintain realistic expectations and communicate with the bride-to-be in a positive manner.

Get enough sleep. As the maid of honor, you will need to remain sharp, focused, motivated, and stress-free to juggle all of your duties. Receiving 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep every night is necessary for maintaining mental clarity and regulating emotions. Without a good night’s sleep, you can experience elevated stress levels, memory loss, mood swings, mental fogginess, and depression. It’s your job to make sure the bride gets her beauty sleep too! Enjoy the celebrations! Whether you’re staying local or organizing a destination wedding, you will more than likely be attending various parties and events leading up to the wedding. Help with the invites, booking a photographer, and catering, but don’t forget to enjoy the moment as well! Although the parties are designed with the bride-to-be in mind, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be enjoying them just as much. All your hard work will pay off, so when party time arrives, let go and enjoy the celebration with your loved ones.

Be prepared for everything when the big day comes by making a wedding emergency kit. The little things always seem to go wrong when we need them to go right – so come prepared. We recommend having a wedding “go-bag” stocked with a stain remover stick, backup lipstick in the bride’s color, a mini sewing kit, ibuprofen, bobby pins, hair bands, fashion tape, and anything else that will save you from a day-of emergency.

Acting as the maid of honor for a loved one’s wedding can bring you a great deal of pride, but it is a huge responsibility that can also leave you feeling overwhelmed. Thankfully, these five wedding planning tips will allow you to excel at your role as maid of honor while still enjoying yourself along the way.
