How To Achieve Your Fitness Goals In 2016

Are you tired of letting the years pass by without achieving your health and fitness goals? Take a look at these tips to help keep you on track so that this New Years Eve you can have a different resolution!

Set your long term goals

Your first step is going to be outlining specific goals that you want to achieve. Maybe you want to be able to run a marathon, maybe you want to lose 30 kilos, whatever that goal is you need to outline it on paper. Make sure your goals are specific enough that they can be measured but also that they’re realistic.

Have a plan

This is my life mantra right here, when you think you have planned enough you need to plan more! You can’t expect to hit your goals if you don’t have a plan about how you are going to get there.

Then you need to move onto step two which is creating benchmarks. Find ways that you can measure the progress towards your goals and use these as mini steps towards smashing your goals.  As time goes by you need to review your progress and adjust your strategies if need be.

Go hard and go home?

In 2016 you don’t need to have expensive gym subscriptions anymore. There are many ways that you can set up a home gym that is perfect for your goals. Many of the machines now also fold up so that you are not taking up much space in your home, you can even get a pink treadmill! You won’t have to wait in line to use the machines, what could be better?! This also gives you the opportunity to make it so appealing that you will want to work out every day.

Increase your fluids

This may seem obvious to some but you would be surprised how many people do not increase their fluids and dehydrate themselves. Which can make you feel not so great, when you feel not so great it gets harder to motivate yourself to work out. Don’t do that to yourself.  You can always consult your doctor or fitness professional about how much water you should be drinking.

Motivation is key

Momentum takes some time to build and the beginning can take some real effort in that respect. The hardest part for most things is just about getting started. Once you start seeing the fruits of your labour it is essential that you maintain your motivation, though it does get easier to stay on track as you start progressing towards those goals.

Ditch old habits and excuses

Everybody will have days that they don’t feel like working out or eating that steamed broccoli for the 5th time this week. The difference between people who achieve their goals and those who don’t is that the ones who make excuses don’t achieve what they want. This comes back to maintaining a healthy focus on your goals and motivating yourself to change your habits and mindset.

Build a good support system

This goes further than just having a gym buddy. Maybe you have a friend who is also working towards some health goals. These kinds of people around you will also help to keep you on track in those moments of weakness where the old habits and excuses creep up again!

With some planning, thought and determination you can achieve anything you are putting your mind to. Get started on your goals today and in no time you will be hitting your first benchmark!
